The HGST Deskstar NAS is one of the few NAS drives to feature a 7,200 RPM rotational speed.
This relatively high rotational speed helps the 4TB Deskstar NAS achieve a 4k read/write speed of 1.
14 MB/s is actually the highest 4K read speed I have seen to date on a 4TB drive.
27/02/2017 The WD Red (8TB) and the Seagate NAS HDD (8TB) are our top choices for NAS duty, though the Seagate drive shows significantly better performance.
In addition, 6TB HGST Deskstar NAS HDDs are.
27/01/2017 The HGST drive is a 7200rpm drive, so it will definitely have lower latency and may have higher transfer rates compared to the WD drive.
If you want a WD 7200rpm NAS drive, you have to go with a Red Pro or a Gold drive.
In all, I’d actually recommend the HGST Ultrastar line.
27/05/2016 HGST Deskstar NAS Vs WD Red A network-attached storage (NAS) is a computer data storage made connected to a computer network in order to provide data access to a heterogeneous group of clients.
Because it connects directly to a network, it should have specialized settings either in its hardware, software, or configuration, to be able to perform.
The simple truth is that these two drives are just too similar for their construction and quality to separate them.
What little difference (the MTBF seems better on the HGST UltraStar DC, the max operational time is the tiniest bit higher on the WD Red Pro as they use less power) can be overlooked as the test environment and intended usage situation of both is different.
30/01/2015 The HGST Deskstar NAS HDD posted a competitive performance in both read and write with 184,434KB/s and 342,289KB/s, respectively putting it in the middle of the pack.
The WD Red had the highest write bandwidth with 383,843KB/s and the Seagate Enterprise NAS HDD had the highest read bandwidth with 193,920KB/s.
