When I decided to change my belts, I checked for an interval for changing them.
I found multiple answers, anywhere from 80k to over 100k miles.
1987 GL1200 Aspencade “Ride till you die, or till your hurts too bad to ride any more”, 01/06/2018 The writer kindly referenced me as a #well-known wizard on the GL1000# and mentioned my timing belt change interval recommendation.
I doubt that I#m worthy of the credential bestowed upon me by the writer of that letter! In any case, Stu Oltman, GWRRA#s Senior Technical Editor, took exception with my timing belt change interval advice.
15/10/2011 Replacing timing belts on a Honda GL1200 Goldwing.
The GL1200 in this video is an Aspencade model.
The procedure for changing the belts is almost identical for all GL1200 models, a bit easier on.
Timing belt changes are mega profits to the dealers.
Bottom line – They’ll go at least 2 to 3 times as long as the recommended replacement interval.
To Honda’s credit, they don’t have any recommendations at all as to when to replace the belts on the GW.
They say inspect at 100k.
This is a much more honest approach than the one taken by Toyota.
20/06/2010 Hi folks, Ive been going over this 87 Aspencade we got our hands on, and everything is looking pretty good for a 20+year-old.
I searched around the forum and was unable to locate any info on the suggested replacement interval on the timing belts.
